“Color provokes a psychic vibration. Color hides a power still unknown but real, which acts on every part of the human body.”~ Wassily Kandinsky

DIANE NOVETSKY: PAINTINGS

These three vertical, abstract paintings (two single panels and one diptych) reference the natural world; suggesting water, skies and landmasses in a bold, expressionist manner. In my work, I strive to convey the mystery of natural forces—the light and dark spirit of nature—especially the cycles of growth, decay, and regeneration. These paintings are not based on observation, but evolve while responding to what happens in the painting process—color, texture, light and space.

Surface quality and color are my key interests. I mix a variety of mediums with acrylic paint to achieve complex layers of different textural qualities. My paintings describe lush contrasts in transparency and finish, playing gloss surfaces against matt surfaces for dramatic effect.
