ARTBEAT SATURDAY, JULY 17th

In the Somerville Theater: Dance!

12:30pm

Mosaic Dance Body

After moving to Cambridge in 2002, Mosaic Dance Body regrouped and has shown work at the Dance Complex and Green Street Studios. Mosaic Dance Body will be performing selections from "DRAWERS" including "The Mattel Trilogy" a hilarious cautionary tale about conformity and body image and a piece called "Self-Indulgent Solo."

2:00pm

EgoArt/Nicole Pierce

Nicole is a dancer, choreographer and teacher. EgoArt, Inc., a dance-theater-neovaudevillian company, has performed widely throughout the Northeast. For ArtBeat, EgoArt will perform a piece called “Internacionale,” which includes a monologue, two dances and focuses on themes of espionage, travel and James Bond. The work was inspired by a René Magritte painting and features a score by Somerville composer Nikola Radan.

3:00pm

Zoe Dance

Zoe DanceCreated in the summer of 2002, Zoé has performed at Earth Dance, Mass Art’s Tower Auditorium and the Dance Complex. Headed by artistic director, Callie Chapman Korn, Zoé Dance will present at this year’s ArtBeat: Rootless Cypresses, in which three dancers share a sculptural, intimate journey into a world that is reminiscent of the tall poised cypress trees; Duet, a solo which has been described as “striking” by the Boston Herald; and a new work composed to the music of Chopin.

4:30pm

Wendy Jehlen

Wendy JehlenDancer/Choreographer Wendy Jehlen, a Somerville native, will be presenting several of her recent works.
