During the heat of summer, artists and festival goers converge on Davis Square, transforming it into one of the area's largest and most innovative arts festivals. This year's ArtBeat theme is "Play." We'll be exploring how people and community come together when they are playful, creative, and expressive. There will be interactive comix, chess playing, a "Playmation" film fest, a Somerville-themed game show, youth Brazilian drum playing and local writers participating in "WordPlay." In conjuction with ArtBeat, the Nave Gallery presents "Play", featuring nine Boston area artists; curated by ARTSomerville. These are just a few examples of how festival participants are intepreting this year's theme.
