ARTBEAT SATURDAY, JULY 17th

In the Jimmy Tingle Theater

1:00pm

Wicked Smaht

Wicked Smaht follows a traditional game show format with a focus on trivial information that is relentlessly local. The show was once a big hit on City Cable 16—and now it’s back for a rare live performance at ArtBeat! From Somerville’s people and places to its buildings and history, Wicked Smaht not only offers a wealth of information, but wicked entertainment, as well.

2:30pm

Books of Hope

Books of Hope is a Somerville-based youth program that seeks to create opportunities for self-expression and advocacy through creative writing. For ArtBeat, the BOH group of young adults will perform theatrical performances based on works they have written and published. Overarching themes in these bravely honest and moving works include love and trust.

3:45pm

Theatre @ First

Theatre @ FirstTheatre@First’ will perform two one-act plays from the quirky and comedic “All In The Timing” collection by David Ives. The two acts are: “Philip Glass Buys A Loaf Of Bread” and “The Universal Language,” which brings together a young woman with a stutter and Don, the creator and teacher of Unamunda, a wild comic language. Their lesson sends them off into a display of hysterical verbal pyrotechnics—and, of course, true love.
