Music and Mixed-Media in Seven Hills Park

ArtBeat at night: Fri., July 15th

6pm — Lyrical & Rugged One perform with Som. Youth
This summer, the Arts Council and Massive Records are collaborating to teach hip-hop history and technique to a group of Somerville youth. Taught by Boston rapper Lyrical and DJ Rugged One, this series of classes explores deejaying and emceeing and promotes the positive aspects of hip-hop. The project culminates with this ArtBeat performance!

7pm — The Stumbleweeds
The Stumbleweeds play 50’s and 60’s style country and rockabilly music in New England and beyond. The band features Lynnette Lenker as lead singer and acoustic guitarist. Dennis Kelly, or Big Earl as some call him, plays a ripping lead guitar. Jack Hanlon plays the dog house bass with gusto and Johnny “Cocktail” Coté keeps the beat on the drums.

8pm — Last Call Agency presents: A multi-media Extravaganza
This production will kick off with Chanteuse Leah Callahan and friends performing a mini rock opera. Next up is the colorful Ad Frank and band, known for crooning camp, lounge and glam-rock. Alluring ladies of vaudevillian dance and the amazing emcee Geisslah will round out the evening.

9:45pm — Wayne & Wax
Local scholar/producer Wayne & Wax will provide some mashed-up edutainment, discussing and demonstrating the “mash-up”--a new form of musical expression challenging our sense of the “song” and provoking delight through ironic juxtapositions. Looking at the mash-up’s roots in hip-hop and remix culture, Wayne & Wax will play some of his favorites, show how they’re made, and finish with a live mash-up of the sounds of Somerville.

6:30-8:30pm — Kitsune Dance Performance
Kitsune Dance Theatre will perform “Universe/Orbit,” a sculptural movement installation. Electronic music duo will accompany Kitsune. 4 dancers, dressed as alien goddesses and holding mysterious orbs, will create an otherworldly atmosphere that will transform Davis Square into a visual and auditory feast.
