ArtBeat: Sat., July 16th

1pm — Al-Jawary Al-Hessan Bellydancers
Members of the professional belly dance troupe, Al-Jawary Al-Hessan, will perform a full Egyptian show to Arabic music. They will use some of the major props of the dance: sword, veil, cane, and finger cymbals, in an exciting show that is sure to appeal to audiences of all ages. And, they’ll encourage audience members to dance with them at the end of their show.

2pm — Keeping it Cool Culinary Demo
Folklorist Millie Rahn presents “Staying Cool in Somerville,” featuring a demonstration of Somerville’s ethnic cuisines. Local cooks will share the history of their family recipes. Samples provided!

3pm — Theatre@First
Theatre@First is Davis Square's own community theatre. Hosted by the First Congregational Church of Somerville, we fill an important niche in the vibrant Somerville arts scene. Drawing on the talents and contributions of individuals and organizations throughout the community, we create quality affordable theatre to engage and entertain. We are currently staging our sixth show--Summer Splash: Our 2nd Annual Evening of One-Acts--with performances on July 14-16 & 21st-23rd at 8pm and July 17th at 7pm. 4pm — Potato Mash
Kara Nielsen and Beth Forrest will orchestrate a hands-on potato mash.Mixed with colored liquids, the potato mash (with help from the public) will be turned into a free form collective sculpture.
