In Jimmy Tingle Off Broadway Theater

ArtBeat: Sat., July 16th

1pm — City Stage presents: “Folktales Near & Far”
“Folktales Near & Far”, from City Stage Company, is participatory theater that tells stories from Native American, Chinese, European, African and South American cultures. Performed by 2 adult professional actors, with volunteers who join them on stage to play roles. For ages 2 and up. City Stage Co. is celebrating 30 years of providing opportunities for families to participate in the performing arts so they can make discoveries about themselves and the world. The company received a 2005 Elliot Norton Award from the Boston Theater Critics Association.

2:30pm — Auddity presents “A Factory Suite”
Auddity is Erik Nugent, Michael Knobloch and Eric Dahlman. The trio combine free improvisations, drones and ethnic grooves to create unique soundscapes utilizing traditional and invented instruments such as trumpet, overtone throat singing, home made wind instruments and a wide variety of percussion to explore known and unknown sonic terrains. For Art Beat Auddity will be premiering a new work entitled ‘Factory Suite’ which celebrates Somerville’s rich industrial history.

3:30pm — Somerville writers present: A Literary Mixer
This year’s “Mix & Mash” theme is perfectly suited to writers, who use bits and pieces of everything they can wrap their imagination around. Artbeat’s literary mixer will take place at Jimmy Tingle’s theatre. In the spirit of mixing it up, many different kinds of writing -- including children’s literature, science fiction, mystery, plays, as well as other forms of fiction and nonfiction -- will ‘collage’ the event, and showcase the wide variety of writers living in Somerville.
