ArtBeat at night: Fri., July 14th

In Statue Park (by Store 24)

5:30pm — Bowed Metal with Dance by Ellen Godena

An acoustic drone performance by Matt Samolis and Peter on "Steel Cellos" --a bowed cymbal sound sculpture--with dance performance by Ellen Godena that explores how external storms can be visualized as occuring within the body.

Music and Mixed-Media in Seven Hills Park

5:45pm — Sunsetters

Comprised of high school aged performers, the Sunsetters was a popular singing and dancing street performance group the 1970s and '80s. Mayor Curtatone brought back the group in 2005 to expand the city's youth programming. At ArtBeat, current Sunsetters will perform classic show tunes.

6:00pm — Formula
This lively six-piece band, featuring members from El Salvador, Mexico and Dominican Republic, plays a mix of merengue, tropi cal, Bachata (Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic), and cumbia (Columbia). Whether fast and feisty Bachata or sweetly synco- pated Cumbia, Formula creates sounds perfect for dancing.

6:45pm — Bennett Dance Company
The BDC will perfom "Well," in which four dancers float within, and encircle a large water-filled copper by visual artist Michael Dowling. Skin, copper, light, captivate the eye while powerful dancing creates an depiction of women as the keepers of water.

7:15pm — Frank Smith
Frank Smith is a band and not a man. has the name Frank or Smith. Frank musicians, including members of The and The Sharking. Frank Smith plays music with psychedelic textures.

8:15pm — UV Protection
Combining performance art and music, this Somerville female ensemble creates an operatic choral pop mix, using sound effects, synth keys and acoustic drums. They critique topics like government and consumption in a highly humorous fashion.

9:00pm — KinoDance
Initiated in 1999 by dancer/choreographer Alissa Cardone, filmmaker Alla Kovgan and visual artist Dedalus Wainwright, Kinodance creates stage performances, installations and films that merge dance, film, light, sound and kinetic sculpture. Chris Brokaw will accompany KinoDance on their final dance piece.

9:45pm — Chris Brokaw
Boston-based Chris Brokaw has been recording and performing internationally since 1990, with bands Come and Codeine; he has also recorded with The New Year, Consonant and Evan Dando. His latest solo release is "Incredible Love." Chris will perform with bassist Jeff Goddard and drummer Kevin Coultas.
