12:00PM — Dorkbots presents: Robot Talent Show
Dorkbot Boston, a chapter of the international Dorkbot group ("people doing strange things with electronics") will host a robotic showdown. In addition to robotic musical marionettes from Willoughby and Baltic Gallery, a roaming robot by kinetic artist Jim Sedgwick, the show will also feature a day-long robotic parts swap. So, bring gears, motors, boards and power supplies, as well as old clock parts and meccano sets. Bring a part, take a part.
1:00PM — Random Chants
Random Chants is a Boston-based women's a cappella group with a mixed repertoire of a pop, rock, jazz and folk music. The group recently released their first album, Chants Encounter, and performs regularly at small music venues, corporate and private events, and weddings in the Boston area.
2:00PM — Guitar Circle New England
Guitar Circle New England features six acoustic guitars, 12 hands, 36 strings, and 60 fingers that create a singular sound--Bartok, fused with King Crimson, by way of Philip Glass, punctuated with jazz and rock. Periodically, removing herself from her guitar stool, Genevieve (Mary Beth Hughes) will dance-interpret select pieces.
3:00PM — Tango Performance and Demos
Tango Veterans Hanif Butt and Evdokia Nikolova perform various Tango numbers including, "La Cumparsita" and "Libertango." Afterwards the duo will invite audience members to partake in a 30-minute tango lesson, focusing on: tango posture, "the dynamic embrace" and the diamond tango pattern.
4:00PM — Joey Daytona remixes Gertrude Stein
DJ Joey Daytona remixes Gertude Stein reading her poem, "If I Told Him, A Completed portrait of Picasso." First published in 1924 in Vanity Fair magazine, it is a subtle critique of the portrait of Stein done by Picasso. The recording from the Sub Rosa audio archive of her reading is an amazing piece of cultural history in its own right. Witness the art of the remix live and be mesmerized.
