ArtsUnion - Street Architecture

The Somerville Arts Council and the Mayor's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development commissioned local artisans to design new streetscape architecture, which included benches, trash barrels, and an information kiosk.

ArtsUnion Street Architecture component provide both functional public ameninates and economic development opportunities for local craftsman, architects, and fabricators. The next time you are in the square please check out this work.

Since 2005, the Council has developed numerous calls for the street architecture. Check out our invovate calls for this work.

  • ArtsUnion expanded its vision and announced another call for designers, fabricators, artists and architects to design and fabricate a performance and gathering area within the Union Square plaza. Initial proposals were due June 8, 2006 Download call here. (project suspended)
  • Additionally, ArtsUnion put a call out to artists/designers/engineers who work with light to submit proposals to create light displays within Union Square during the winter of 2006/07. The deadline for this call was October 3, 2006. Download Lightscapes call here.
