SWITCHBOX PROJECT

"Art stops traffic in Somerville" - Boston Globe August 17, 1997

The Switchbox Project was initiated by Mayor Michael Capuano to bring the work of Somerville artists out of the studios and onto city streets. Artists Catherine Jaggi and Shoshana Phillips created Somerville's newest public art.

Located at busy intersections, four large yellow electrical "switchboxes" have been transformed with paint. Phillips' work is on Bow Street (at Warren Avenue) in Union Square, and on Broadway at Magoun Square (in front of Dunkin' Donuts). Jaggi's boxes are located on Broadway at Foss Park and the corner of Broadway and Cross Street in East Somerville. Watch for new switchboxs in the future! Interested artists should contact the Somerville Arts Council at 625-6600 x2985.
