2003 WINDOWS ART PROJECT (WAP)

WAP AT NIGHT
There are three exhibits that are difficult to appreciate during the day time and are well worth night visits! They are:
- Video Installation at Sherman (A coffee shop opening soon),
257 Washington Street.
- Video Installation at Somerville Community Access Television,
90 Union Square.
- Neon Installation at Costamar Travel, 65 Union Square.
THE WAP RECEPTION
The festive WAP reception was in Union Square Plaza on Saturday, September 13 from 2 to 5ish. At 2pm there were tours of the WAP exhibits (one tour in Portuguese). There was also be a walking tour of Union Square history and “Union Square Affair: An interactive rhyming tour of local businesses,” presented by WAP artists Sharon Wolfson and Elizabeth Vyas. At 3pm, the reception kicked off with bands, including the Haitian outfit Chita-sou-d’om, and a dance performance by the Boston Dahn Group, a troupe of Korean dancers. There was food courtesy of Union Square businesses, performance art, plein air painters and activities such as henna hand painting and corsage making courtesy of WAP artist Amy Fisher.
THE WAP ARTISTS
This year’s WAP artists were selected by a jury comprised of Somerville Arts Council staff and board members and guest juror Meg Rotzel of the Berwick Institute. Selected artists include painters, sculptors, photographers, mixed media and installation artists. The WAP 2003 artists are: Chris Aharonian, Leika Akiyama, Lynda Banzi, Dagan Barrett, Vaughn Bell, Corinne Champagne, Janet Cormier, Nick Deamer, Aura Ever, Amy Fisher, Lewis Gesner, David Guenette, Joelle Hochman, Joanne Kaliontzis, Yar Laakso, Julia Malik, Matthew Pearson, Jennifer Pipp, Alethea Roy, SCUL, Hilary Scott, Marscella Stasa, V Van Sant, Karl Viksnins, Elizabeth Vyas, Sharon Wolfson, and Stephanie Wratten.
WAP guides will be available throughout Union Square. Just look for the funky WAP stands designed by Somerville WAP artist Hilary Scott.
