Walter and the Night Owls are a Somerville, MA-based alternative-folk music quartet. Combining acoustic guitar, violin, and cello with vocal harmonies they’ve manage to create a sound all their own while echoing inspiration from songwriters like Josh Rouse, Jeff Tweedy, and Ray Lamontagne. Composed of three music educators (Masami, Afton, and Kristy) and a classical guitarist (Walter), Walter and the Night Owls was formed when a last minute gig sparked a musical kinship. The band is currently working on their debut full length album. For more information on Walter and the Night Owls visit www.walterandthenightowls.com .

90-Mile Portage

37 Cedar Street, Somerville (see map on right)
Band Contact: Jamie Kallestad
Saturday, May 17 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The music of 90-Mile Portage is a surprising fusion of the two members' disparate musical worlds. Singer/guitarist Jamie Kallestad comes from a folk/bluegrass background, while Ben Cosgrove is a rising composer of geographically inspired "place music"

Set to Cosgrove's lush and unconventional arrangements, Kallestad's songs take flight, his lake-clear vocals and needlepoint lyrics carried aloft on strange and beautiful instrumental layers. 90MP released a 5 song EP of their work in the spring 2013 and are slowly and quietly working hard on a full-length album. Stay tuned voyageurs!
